Kinder (Pre-K & Kindergarten)

Our “Kinder” group is a maximum of fourteen children ages 4 to 5.  It is primarily a Pre-K program (including those qualifying for UPK) and occasionally a few Kindergarten students (see below), with two teachers, for a student to teacher ratio of seven to one.  Kinder students may attend half-days or full-days, with a minimum of two days, and parents have the option of adding before or after school care.  The Kinder program occasionally combines with the Preschool program in the afternoons for an opportunity to work with an even wider age-range of peers.

We create opportunities in this program for students to be exposed to math & literacy concepts that help them feel confident going into Kindergarten or 1st grade, while continuing to focus on Social/Emotional well-being, play, hands-on experiential learning, creativity, and community collaboration!

Why Consider Patchwork for Kindergarten?

Did you know that in many other countries, such as Finland (who has some of the highest test scores internationally), students don’t start school until age 7?

  • Does your child just miss the cutoff for public school kindergarten and you want to offer them an enriching year prior to their Kindergarten year?
  • Do you want to offer your child another year in a play-based environment before they transition into a more traditional school?
  • Are you considering homeschooling and would like some support and community while you get started?

Our Kinder Environment

The main Kinder space is in its own building near the back of the property, with a large wrap-around outdoor space. It also includes a separate art studio full of beautiful windows and bright light.

The Kinder loft is a favorite spot!
The outdoor space is full of natural materials, climbing spaces, edible plants, and more!
Two children work on a project in the Kinder Art Studio.

I can’t even express in words our gratitude, and am extremely thankful that you decided to open such an amazing school. It has truly been a life changing experience to be part of this community. My only wish is that I could be there more. I know that [my son] will look back at these years and feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to have this type of education.  [The teachers] have been pivotal in his transformation.

Patchwork has held an incredibly supportive space for our child to develop in emotional maturity. We see an increase in his ability to connect socially with peers, a deep curiosity, and a sense of more adventure and risk- taking.  So, so grateful for the way they have offered our child materials and offerings that allow him to move at an advanced pace, and protect his need for quiet time.
